Shaka Zulu revisited – Where will you run now people of Zimbabwe?During Shaka Zulu’s reign, Mzilikazi fled north to escape Shaka Zulu’s violent rule. Mzilikazi, chief of the Ndwandwe tribe that was acquired and taken under the Zulu wings, decided to set up his own kingdom. With his remaining regiment and families he settled down in Matabeleland in todays Zimbabwe, where he became the King of the Matabele. Although out of reach for Shaka Zulu, they had to face other battles. The most recent one gave them reason to flee once again, away from their own country’s leader Robert Mugabe and back to South Africa.

The ironic part is that although not a major part, some of them came all the way back to the Zulu kingdom – KwaZulu Natal! Yet again, they are hunted by Zulu’s. Over the last week, 22 people have been killed and thousands chased from their homes in the black townships throughout South Africa. It’s a small minority of the Zulu’s that are behind it, but people are talking about political motives. The Inkatha Freedom Party has been mentioned as the possible instigator. Perpetrators are singing “Umshini Vami” the ANC (African National Congress) freedom song (Meaning: “Give me my machine gun”) that was one of Jacob Zuma’s trademarks during the recent election. Whether it is Mangosutho Buthelezi (Inkatha) or Jacob Zuma (ANC), as well as Robert Mugabe… They are no better than Shaka Zulu for the Zimbabweans in South African exile! They run for their lives today like they did 200 years ago to escape the Zulu Impis. But where will you run now people of Matabeleland and Zimbabwe?!

Well, who is the main beneficiary while foreigners suffer - certainly the government. The ANC leadership has failed to give the desired leadership. I wonder why foreigners are not taking the law in their hands and drive the Zulus out of Johannesburg. I know, putting one nationalism against another can serve nothing. But the current unemployment situation in South Africa demands a vanguard socialist movement. And what's African Union doing right now?

It's a sad day for all in South Africa. People of Zimbabwe stood for South Africans during the days of the Aparthaid and now they are getting this. All other African countries too welcomed South Africans during the apartheid-era. What a pity. How can they become hostile to migrants and refugees. Attackers are accusing the immigrants of taking jobs and increasing South Africa's already-high crime rate. Who are real criminals here? We can clearly see. All of a sudden South Africans have started feeling that they are very superior. Where is Mandela and his ideology?

first it were the Somalis in 2005 and 2006 living in the Eastern and Western Cape who were targeted and now its the Zimbabweans who are facing the xenophobia. this is strange that the country that witness the apartheid and racism in south Africa has made no progress and the poor are worse off than they were before the transition to majority rule. ppl who look for the refuge are safe nowhere, neither the Zimbabweans nor the Kenyans. and the irony is that Mebaki is looking for the peace in zimbabwe and not in his country first.

unequal distribution of wealth in SA is the soul reason for the present violence. in south Africa white are still affluent and blacks are among the poorest of the poor. The Zulu, the indigenous Africans are suffering from poverty and When the problem became worse, the poor indigenous blacks starts violence against the poor black foreigners accusing them for taking away their jobs. Until the poverty of the ordinary people is tackled and they will not be educated it woefully will continue. unemployment, AIDS, poor education system, poor housing, sanitation and the rising cost of living are among the major problems that need to dealt with, rest will follow.

The Zulus have taken the law in their own hands, so why cant the rest of us? I agree to some extent... it’s pretty close to anarchy as it is!

Nilesh & Iain!
I took Zimbabweans as an example here... but its actually any foreign groups in the townships that get it this time it seems! But it’s kinda ironic when their own freedom fighters during the Apartheid era could seek refuge in Zimbabwe. Funny way of paying back...

Edmond!
Powerty and unemployment are certainly not helping the situation. But what do politicians do to help???!!! A corrupt rapist of a Zuluboy is about to take control down here... Not very promising!
